The Kurdish Freedom Movement
have made it cyrstal clear. Do not go on holiday to Turkey! And I as a seasoned watcher of the Kurdish Freedom Struggle I would like to underline that. I do so, because of how gloomy I am feeling, of just of how badly, generally, events are unfolding in Turkey and because I fear we are reaching a tipping point in just how far the patience of the Kurdish side can be stretched! I sense we are reaching a point of no return!

Kurdistan National Congress issues a
statement on recent Turkish bombings of Qendil. To the public opinion: The Turkish state does not cease carrying out military operations passing through the borders of Iraqi Kurdistan. The Turkish army yesterday night held an air raid against the positions of PJAK’s (Kurdish Iranian Party for a Free Life) militants on the mounts of Qandil. During this attack where chemical gas was used, 6 journalist members of the PJAK press service lost their lives. Thus, Turkey does not recognize any right regarding to the international war rules.

In early March 1998, I left the United States for a long journey to the Middle East and two days of lengthy, very revealing discussions with Abudllah (Apo) Ocalan, the long-time, reclusive leader of the Partiva Karkaren Kurdistan (PKK) or Kurdistan Workers Party. Vilified in Turkey and officially listed by the United States State Department as a terrorist organization, the PKK had grown out of the leftist fervor in Turkish politics and rebirth of Kurdish nationalism that had occurred in Turkey during the 1960-70s. After several years of preparation, Ocalan had then officially created the PKK on 27 November 1978

The fact that PKK is a movement of a nation which emerged deep inside the Kurdish elite is not a matter of denial, however it is clear for many people who familiar with the Kurdish issue that PKK appeared and developed as a result of historical necessity in the certain period of the time and its aim and goal has been also well-defined for these whom blind-folded their eyes in the reality of Kurdish people for many years.
